Which Portable Oxygen Concentrator Do I Need?

If you are in need of supplemental oxygen and enjoy being outdoors, traveling, exercising, running errands or spending time with friends and family, consider a portable oxygen concentrator.

Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) are portable oxygen devices that supply oxygen therapy through a nasal cannula. The POC’s do not need to be re-filled. They use the air we all breathe and filter out the gasses we don’t use like nitrogen and deliver oxygen directly to you.

When trying to decide which portable oxygen concentrator is best for you there are a few things that need to be considered. You might want to determine how much time you need the oxygen to last (battery life), your setting flow and how much weight you are you able to carry.

The battery life on portable oxygen concentrators will vary based on the model, the battery size and the flow rate that you are using. Each model is made differently and some units with all things equal will have longer lasting run time than others. Using a double battery will maximize the life usage of your POC but you may be sacrificing additional weight. Purchasing additional batteries may help keep the weight down on

the unit and still allow you to be out longer by simply changing batteries out when one dies.

Your flow setting will also affect the battery life of a portable oxygen concentrator. The higher the flow setting the harder your concentrator has to work, thus causing the battery to drain quicker.

Portable oxygen concentrators with a larger double battery will weigh more than a concentrator with a smaller single battery but you will get about twice as much run time from the unit.

It’s important to weigh all the factors between the different models, the different flow settings, weight and the battery sizes so that you are receive the best oxygen therapy for your particular lifestyle and your health care needs.

These are just a few items to consider when looking for a portable oxygen concentrator. Please feel free to call us, we are more than happy to help guide you on the best POC for your needs.
